Just realized that Jason Derulo "whatcha say" is big fat sample of Imogen Heaps, Hide and Seek.meeeh
Had a sculpture critique today filled with awkward silences, as critiques perhaps besides digital usually are
I dont know how well my work was responded to buuuut Im really happy with my crazy moving chain sculpture.
Im really interested in moving turning articulating interactive things, and just when I get more interesting ideas, poof, the section is over
oh wellll maybe Ill buy some more metal, seens how my small and thicker rods are both GONE, stolen! well the thicker rod might not be, I never looked that hard for that one.
I find taking sculpture and digital is friggin weird, they are such different ways of working
there's no undo button in sculpture
ReplyDeleteI though your chain was awesome, liked how we could pass it around and touch it. I wonder if our class' habitual silence is because we don't want to risk "breaking" things? Like feelings or the works? Like we don't want to hurt the work in the creator's eyes?
ReplyDeleteYou got stuff stolen too? I lost my thinner sheet of metal.
And the contrast between digital and sculpture is so strange, especially on fridays, you have to switch between two completely different modes of thinking in the space of a few hours.

it is a huge comment!!! I want email notifications but i dunno or cant be bothered to figure it out.
ReplyDeleteI think the silence might be because we were raised all throughout school to only speak when spoken to or to raise your hand, and some of that socialization lingers behind. also I think it might just feel like humoring art school in havin shit to say at this one specific time right now in a special little circle. I find we just all talk consistently while the work is in progress.
